TANZANIA, FOUR NATIONS REACH PHENOMENAL BILATERAL AGREEMENTS

++Three nations from continental Europe, Asia and South America
++Norway, Denmark, Sweden and EU to support Budget
++Nicolas Marduro approves Magufuli, wants to open Embassy

By Special Correspondents in Dar es Salaam and Oslo

TANZANIA continues to win worldwide support towards its historic milestone in industrializing its economy. The fifth phase Government under President John PombeMagufuli is clearly determined to implement its reforms whose signs, in only three years, attract global attention.

Tanzania’s Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Dr Augustine Mahiga recently met with envoys who made commitments for the three European nations, the European Union, China and the South American nation of Venezuela.

Africa would only make significant strides if serious radical reforms were implemented in the rich continent but characterized with slow economic development.
The Minister mentioned the representatives as Norwegian Minister for International Development Nikolai Astrup, Chinese Ambassador Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) ZhuiYuxiao and Venezuela’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yuri Pimentel.

Dr. Mahiga also met the Danish Permanent Secretary for Development and International Cooperation, Trine Rask Thygesen.

Dr. Mahiga said that his talks with the envoys had cemented the existing good relations between Tanzania and the four countries. The countries pledged continued support in recognition of Tanzania’s efforts in building a modern economy in Africa.

The Minister further said that Denmark has also pledged further support by releasing funds to support Tanzania’s development budget, Sweden and European Union (EU) also made commitments.

This is a clear evidence of Tanzania’s successful diplomacy coupled with outstanding negotiation abilities in the family of nations. Indeed Tanzania is east African’s pivotal nation in regional integration and stability.

Dr. Mahiga who had also served as Tanzania’s permanent representative to the United Nations (UN) before the UN Secretary General appointed him UN Special Representative and Head of the United Nations Political Office for Somalia from 2010 to 2013, represented Dr. Magufuli in the fruitful discussions with the envoys.

In the meeting, Denmark committed to release US$10 million and Sweden pledged US$19 million. What appeared to clear any prior misinformation between Tanzania and the EU, the latter committed to disburse US$34 million, making a total of US$63 million with those committed its members above towards Tanzania’s general budget support.

                  Venezuela Impressed with Tanzania

Venezuela, a country in the northern coast of South America, has been impressed with Tanzania’s brilliant economic performance and vision which convinced it to forge closer links with this east African fast growing economy.

“We have invited Venezuela to establish their embassy in the country, and they are looking forward to building their offices in Dodoma,” Dr. Mahiga, the 14th Tanzania’s Foreign Affairs Minister said.

The 63rd Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro Moros, wants closer ties with Tanzania. The south American nation has set aside funds to construct the embassy in Tanzania’s capital city of Dodoma. He said it after a fruitful meeting Dr. Mahiga held with Venezuela’s Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Yuri Pimentel in Dar es Salaam.
The policies implemented by Tanzania’s President Magufuli continue to capture global attention and most nations have continued to render him support to implement the long awaited reforms in the continent.

It is obvious that most Western developed nations might feel burdened by constantly budgeting for aid and grant aid to Africa, therefore, Magufuli’s determination to increase independent capacity over time is a breakthrough.

China invites Tanzania to utilize US$60 billion investment support

Tanzania continues to cement its bilateral ties with the world. The nation has huge and unmatched investment opportunities and was open for business with any interested nation.

Foreign Minister Mahiga
In the spirit of Deng Xiaoping or Dengism, Tanzania under Magufuli continues to embrace development with all partners, as goes Dengism, “it doesn’t matter whether a cat is black or white as long as it catches mice.”

Tanzania’s Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation Minister had met Chinese Ambassador Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) ZhuiYuxiao who invited Tanzania to make use of the US$60 billion availed by China for African investments.

United States of American (USA) wants to counter China’s growing influence in Africa by setting up a US$60 billion fund for developing countries. The funds would be channeled through International Development Finance Corporation (IDFC), created in the environments of toughening economic warfare between the two superpowers.

Tanzania, a fast developing African nation, implements radical reforms which would gradually enhance its revenue collections and strengthen local sources of income to reduce dependency on aid its future budgets. It is because of this milestone, President John Pombe Mafufuli needs the cooperation of Tanzania’s international partners to support this futuristic endeavor.

Dr. Magufuli’s clear determination to build an industrial economy thus making it a middle income country by 2025, is right on track by enhancing the capacity, making structural transformations necessary to foster a competitive economy and international player.

Facts The Economist Got Them Wrong on Magufuli

DAR ES SALAAM, East Africa:  By Dr. Hernan Louise Verhofstadt* “ A BIT like President Donald Trump, Tanzania’s president, John Magufuli, likes to fire employees on television. In November Mr. Magufuli used a live broadcast from a small town in the north of the country summarily to dismiss two officials,” this is an extract from a recent online article I came across from the newspaper that I admired when I was growing up in Europe back in 1990’s; the Economist . Before I venture into other serious issues, the excerpts above contains gross factual errors; my own fact-check indicates that in the named public rally during the opening of Kagera Airport, there was no summary dismissal of the two officials instantly on television, as alleged. Instead, the two, one District Executive Directors for Bukoba Urban and another for Rural were relieved their duties later through a press release from President’s Office.   This is my prima impressio reading the Econom...

Tundu Lissu, a despot in the shadow?

By Masinde Masondore, Montreal, Canada, 01-04-2018:  WHEN a learned politician brags of publicly embarrassing his President and counts it an honor while deliberately sabotages the nation's economic interests is a misfit in African traditions. 'Africans have had own ways of criticising the King, the way it happened in ancient Israel, however, in any case, the nation's interests were set apart from any sabotage," Gilbert Moshi. Tindu Lissu, a controversial Tanzanian opposition politician would be leaning on a wrong wall. He chose a road less travelled by learned individuals who mostly were rational. The road he walks and the philosophy he exhibit, only label him a tyranny of darkness. Any democratic leader, whether in opposition or ruling party ought to be totally enveloped in wisdom which prevents monumental errors of judgment. Lissu does not exhibit a minute of it. One of the pillars of customer-focused policies in the business world i...
